Sassofonista, compositore, arrangiatore e didatta, Maurizio Giammarco (Pavia, 1952) è emerso nei primi anni ‘70 come una delle voci più autorevoli della nuova scena jazz italiana, guadagnandosi una menzione sulla Biographical Encyclopedia of Jazz di Leonard Feather e Ira Gitler. E’ stato leader di molti gruppi, fra cui gli storici Lingomania (gruppo di punta degli anni ‘80), e la Parco Della Musica Jazz Orchestra (PMJO), big band dell’Auditorium di Roma da lui diretta fra il 2005 e il 2010 in oltre cento concerti in Italia e all’estero con molti ospiti nazionali e internazionali. Profondo conoscitore di tutto il jazz storico, e forte di una vasta esperienza anche in altri ambiti musicali (dal pop alla contemporanea), Giammarco ha sviluppato una sua identità stilistica e compositiva in cui converge tutto il suo passato musicale. Collaborazioni di spicco lo hanno visto accanto a Chet Baker, Lester Bowie, Dave Liebman, Phil Markowitz, Miroslav Vitous, Peter Erskine e tantissimi altri nomi internazionali, oltre a quasi tutti i più importanti musicisti italiani.
Nel Cd Lights and Shades del 2013 è in quartetto con Vic Juris, Jay Anderson e Adam Nussbaum. Il Cd Lingosphere del 2017 documenta invece una riedizione di Lingomania. I suoi attuali progetti musicali comprendono il Trio e il Quintetto Syncotribe (So To Speak del 2017, Only Human del 2020, Bliss vol.1 del 2024 cui seguirà a breve Bliss Vol.2) e il nuovo quartetto “pianoless” Rumours, con Ferenc Nemeth, Riccardo Del Fra e Fulvio Sigurtà (Past Present 2022, PDM records).
Apprezzato solista anche in tante registrazioni e tour di musica pop, ha composto e arrangiato musica per teatro, danza, cinema, Cd roms, orchestra sinfonica e orchestra d’archi. E’ autore di una monografia su Sonny Rollins (1996) e un libro di sue composizioni e trascrizioni è uscito per la Carish (2012). Ha diretto la rassegna Termoli Jazz Podium dal 2000 al 2006. E’ presente in oltre cento registrazioni discografiche (una trentina come leader) e da diversi anni insegna Prassi Strumentale, Analisi delle Forme e Musica d’Insieme presso la Siena Jazz University.

Maurizio Giammarco (saxophonist, composer, arranger and teacher) emerged in the early 70s as one of the most authoritative voices of the new italian Jazz scene, earning a mention on The Biographical Encyclopedia of Jazz, edited by Leonard Feather & Ira Gitler.
He has leaded many important groups, including Lingomania (a leading band during the 80s), and the Parco Della Musica Jazz Orchestra (PMJO), the roman Auditorium Jazz Orchestra which he directed between 2005 and 2010 in over one hundred concerts with national and international guests. In the orchestral field he worked out various projects for other national organics of this type.
Rooted in a deep knowledge of all historical jazz, and with extensive experiences also in other musical fields (from pop to contemporary music), Giammarco has developed a stylistic and compositional identity where his multifaceted musical experience converges. Prominent collaborations have seen him alongside Chet Baker, Lester Bowie, Dave Liebman, Phil Markowitz, Miroslav Vitous, Peter Erskine and many other international stars, as well as almost all the most important Italian musicians.
On the CD Lights and Shades (2013) he is in quartet with Vic Juris, Jay Anderson and Adam Nussbaum. The Cd Lingosphere (2017) documents a recent Lingomania reunion. His current musical projects include the Syncotribe Trio and Quintet (So To Speak in 2017, Only Human in 2020, Bliss Vol.1 in 2024, Bliss Vol.2 to be released in 2025) and the pianoless quartet Rumours with Ferenc Nemeth, Riccardo Del Fra e Fulvio Sigurtà (Past Present 2022).
Appreciated freelancer and soloist also in recordings and pop music tours, he has composed and arranged music for theater, dance, cinema, CD roms, symphony orchestra and string orchestra. He is the author of a monograph on Sonny Rollins (1996) and a book of his compositions and transcriptions was released by Carish (2012). He directed the Termoli Jazz Podium from 2000 to 2006. He is present in over one hundred recordings (around thirty as a leader) and currently teaches at the Siena Jazz University.
